Debbie Mello, Cold Case from Taunton, MA
Debbie Mello grew up in Taunton, MA. She was the daughter of a local police captain, myself knowing her father, a very dear person to me, and also am close friends with her son and nephew. My mother went to nursing school with Debbie and it seemed everyone sort of knew who Debbie was. She was well liked and very friendly. The best way to describe Debbie would be a wildflower growing in any direction that suits her and any color she fancies. Debbie fell in love at a very young age with, and later married a local police officer named Luis Mello. Many attest to their passionate relationship that culminated in expolsove fights often witnessed by family and friends. In fact I've heard that Debbie was finally ready to leave Luis and had discussed it with him. On June 20, 2000, Luis and Debbie had a verbal disagreement while driving on Route 18 in South Weymouth, MA, and Luis claimed Debbie instructed him to pull the car over and let her out. Luis said he obliged. The place where he let her is very dark at night surrounded by forest, and is 30 miles from their home in Taunton, being a far and very dangerous place to leave your wife of two children alone. Luis claims this was the last time he ever saw his wife. It was suggested that perhaps Debbie ran out on her two children due to the toxic nature of her relationship with her husband but those that knew her better would say this was lunacy and that her love for her kids would have kept her fighting for them no matter what, her son has attested to me. Others believe the circumstances to be suspicious and Luis' behaviors and actions leading up to her disappearance and subsequently thereafter were signs of foul play. This coming June will mark 22 years without an answer for a family and a community that was hit very hard by Debbie's disappearance. There are many articles covering this case spanning two decades and I fully suggest you look into this case.
